On February 22, 2025, Voices of Change led a powerful community-driven event focused on the conservation and protection of the Manguo Wetlands in Limuru, Kenya. This gathering brought together local residents, environmental advocates, policymakers, and youth leaders to amplify the urgent need for wetland preservation and push for its recognition as a protected ecological site under Kiambu County.
The event featured an engaging community forum, where discussions centered on the importance of wetlands in flood and drought resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. Attendees shared experiences, ideas, and strategies to advocate for stronger environmental policies.
Following the forum, participants took direct action through a community clean-up drive in surrounding areas (Rironi, Limuru Town, etc), restoring the surrounding area by removing waste and debris, emphasizing the role of local engagement in conservation efforts.
The Manguo Wetlands Conservation Forum marked a crucial step in the ongoing push to revitalize and protect this vital ecosystem. As we move forward, Voices of Change remains committed to policy advocacy, community-led restoration efforts, and environmental education initiatives to ensure a sustainable future for Manguo and beyond.
